What will you study?

Within the Art and Design GCSE you will have the opportunity to explore a range of practical activities and respond in a personal and creative way to different themes and ideas. You will experiment with a range of media and materials which could include photography, digital manipulation, collage, drawing and painting, papier mâché, ceramics and sculpture. This will help to develop a range of skills and build your confidence. You will also continue to develop your critical thinking skills in response to a range of artists and designers.

How will you be assessed?

GCSE Art and Design is made up of coursework and an externally set exam. You will be assessed against four criteria in each section. The coursework is 60% of the total mark. You will create a personal portfolio of the best artwork selected from the projects you will complete in years 10 and 11. The externally set exam is 40% of the total mark. For this you will be given a range of starting points, from which you will make a personal response using materials and processes of your choice. This exam will take place in year 11.
