In Year 9 most pupils sit a Foundation Certificate of Secondary Education in French. This is a qualification provided by the AQA exam board and it means that our pupils leave Wigston Academy with their first formal qualification.
There are three levels of award: Pass, Merit and Distinction.
We have been entering pupils for the FCSE since 2009 and have found it to be very successful. It is highly motivational for pupils and can be regarded either as a stand alone accreditation or as an ideal basis for progression to further study in languages. Many of our pupils continue with French to GCSE level, others opt to take up a new language at KS4 and choose between Spanish and German.
