Wigston Academy GCSE English Summer Work 2018 Year 10 into Year 11

A Message from the English Department

After reviewing the Year 10 PPEs, we have identified a few things that you could
work on over the summer holiday so you are ready for Year 11.

There are 3 key things:
1) Reading
2) Writing
3) Accuracy

Reading
You need to read widely – particularly fiction. So, during the holiday read for
enjoyment! Any review of a book you read will get you an A1.

Writing
You need to write non-fiction and fiction for the exam. Here are a few titles for you
to have a go at (again – A1s available!):
1. Write a book review.
2. Write a letter to the council asking them for better leisure activities in your
area.
3. Write a story with the title: The Surprise
4. Write a story starting with: It was just a normal day…
5. Write a description of a stormy night.

Accuracy
You need to make sure that your writing is accurate and that you show a variety of
punctuation etc. You will find revision materials and practice tests on the BBC
Skillswise website.

Have a go and hand in anything that you do to your English teacher after the
holidays.

Also – have a rest too! Next year will be hard work!
