Invitation to meet Mr Mitchley

Dear Parents and Carers,

As the end of the first full week approaches, I wanted to write to you to let you know how the Academy is moving forward.

The beginning of a year always brings with it teething troubles with new rooms, new teachers and timetables.  I am pleased to report that our young people have settled well into lessons and tutor groups  and I am impressed by their maturity.  There is still some way to go as, for example, lunchtime routines are not yet embedded due to the complications caused by building work.

As incoming Executive Headteacher, I am obviously having to pick up legacy issues which the building work and full merger have brought about. This is a transition year and I want to emphatically assure you that though this may be a year of change and turbulence for the staff that work here, I am resolute that this will not impact negatively on the pupils.  Decisions, such as keeping Years 7 and 8 in A block and Years 9 and 10 in B block, are temporary and will change as we have full access to the new building.  Much as I believe that a pleasing learning environment is important, much more important to me is what the children are doing in lessons, how creative and stimulating it is and how much they are learning.

I believe that good communication is essential for you, as parents and an essential duty for me, as Executive Headteacher.  I acknowledge that communication has not been as effective as it should have been in the past and I want you to know that I consider it a key responsibility not just for me but for my staff.   I would very much like to meet as many parents and carers as I can and we have an Open Evening on Wednesday 21st September for Year 6 parents and Year 9 parents – a letter about this will follow soon.  Additionally, I am inviting you to a meeting at 5.00 pm on Tuesday 27th September  in the Main Hall  (B block) where I shall give a short presentation about my vision for the Trust, its schools and its young people.  If you would like to come please email:

I look forward to working with you in the coming years.

Yours faithfully,

Mark Mitchley

Executive Headteacher
