Dear Parents and Carers,
I write to you to share the shocking and upsetting news of the death of one of the Trust’s students, Megan Bannister who was in Year 11 at Wigston College and was a former Academy pupil (Bushloe). I am unable to add any further details except to say that the Police have arrested two men in connection with her death.
Megan was funny, friendly and good. She was working so hard for GCSEs and she was due to take her first one today. Her dream was to be a midwife – she’d have been brilliant at it. She was popular and had a wide range of friends: she liked people and they liked her and this is how we will remember her.
Our first thoughts are for Megan’s parents and brothers and sisters. Their grief must be shattering. We are also thinking of her many friends at the College and we are supporting them in every way we can. We know this will be a long road and we have plans in place for ongoing help and support at such a vital time in our children’s lives.
We have been asked to assist the Police with their enquiries and we are working closely with them. They have asked us to ask you to help them by not speculating about events on social media. It may be that that social media was connected to events that linked to Megan’s death. Please be vigilant about your child’s friends and contacts on Facebook and please talk to them about how they use Instagram and Snapchat etc.
We have also asked the media to respect our children’s privacy at this time and give us the time we need to grieve and help each other come to terms with Megan’s loss. If your son or daughter is approached in any way by someone from the media, please would you contact us so that we can ensure there is no intrusion.
If you have any concerns about your son or daughter, please do not to hesitate to get in touch and we will do our best to provide them with any support they may need.
