Year 7 French Trip 2019
CHATEAU DE LA BAUDONNIERE
Sunday 10th March 2019 –Saturday 16th March 2019
Dear Parents and Carers,
The Modern Foreign Languages Department will be running a residential trip for our current year 7 pupils to the Chateau de la Baudonnière, in Normandy from Sunday 10th March – Saturday 16th March 2019.
The Chateau is situated in the region of La Manche in Normandy, 90 minutes south of Cherbourg. Its grounds incorporate an orchard and cider press, boule pitch, farmyard, a lake and river, woodland and meadows. The accommodation is arranged in several small dormitories and the children eat good quality French meals in the dining room at the centre.
Our pupils will engage in a range of outdoor and indoor activities at the centre, for example, there will be an opportunity to take part in a treasure hunt, an orienteering session, climbing, archery and boules. There will also be French classroom activities and games and quizzes in the evenings. A video link for the chateau is below:
The Chateau is all about French language immersion. Everything that is done there involves using practical spoken French to convey meaning and the children are encouraged to speak French as much as possible. A friendly, French environment supports this philosophy. This, of course, provides an excellent opportunity for your child to practise hearing and speaking French.
Travel to the Chateau will be by coach from school to Portsmouth. We shall then take the ferry to Cherbourg (4-5 hour crossing) before travelling by coach to the Chateau in Normandy. Your child will require his/her own passport.
The cost for this trip will be £490 and this includes all travel, accommodation, meals at the centre and all equipment and teaching materials. The price does not include meals while we are travelling.
If you would like your child to be considered for this trip, please complete the slip below and return to Mrs Chapman in room 7 or to either the student or main reception by Wednesday 3rd October together with an initial deposit of £50. Replies after this date will not be considered. If your child is not allocated a place, this will be returned. You will hear by Friday 5th October whether we are able to offer your child a place and will ask for a further non refundable payment of £150 by Wednesday 10th October.
‘Each child who currently receives a free school meal is entitled to up to £150 extra funding for use solely on school visits each year. If your child is eligible and you would like to use this funding (or part thereof) to help cover the cost of this trip then please contact Miss R Lloyd at school or via her email address email@example.com’
I hope that you will agree that this is a very good opportunity for your child and we hope that you will want to apply.
Mrs A. Chapman
