ENGLISH LANGUAGE GCSE

English Language is a core subject so all students study it to GCSE.

COURSE CONTENT

Reading – comprehension, analysis and evaluation of fiction and non-fiction
Writing – both creative and transactional
Spoken Language – the writing and delivering of a speech

ASSESSMENT

Exam board: AQA
For this GCSE, there are two terminal examinations – each worth 50% of the final grade. Both exams are 1hr 45mins.
There is also a Spoken Language Assessment which is graded separately and does not go towards their final mark. Students will deliver a 5 minute planned speech on a subject of their choice. Students will be filmed for exam moderation purposes.
Though students’ achievement will be continuously monitored, the final exams will include responding to previously unseen texts showing their ability to evaluate the writer’s choice of language and demonstrate their own ability to write clearly and coherently in different forms.
