TRAVEL & TOURISM BTEC

The course consists of a range of units that give students the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the travel and tourism sector.

COURSE CONTENT

The Core units are:
Unit 1: The UK Travel and Tourism Sector – this unit covers the main types of tourism in the UK, the contribution that travel and tourism makes to the UK economy and the different component industries that make up the UK travel and tourism sector.
Unit 2: UK Travel and Tourism Destinations – this unit covers what the different types of UK destinations have to offer, as well as locating tourist UK destinations and routes.
Other optional units focus on the development of travel and tourism, customer service within the tourism sector and the factors that affect travel and tourism both in the UK and Worldwide.

ASSESSMENT

Exam board: Edexcel
The course is a BTEC qualification and is the equivalent of a GCSE. It comprises 4 units and is 75% coursework:
1 Unit is externally assessed (25%) through an examination with a range of multiple choice, short and longer answer questions
3 Units are internally assessed (75%) and involves the completion of a wide range of different coursework assignment
